Ice Storm Warning

Our area is expecting an Ice Storm beginning this afternoon through late Tuesday morning. This storm will bring mixed precipitation today which will cause icy road conditions throughout our area (see the warning message below from the National Weather Service). Temperatures will be in the 20’s overnight so we will be dealing with a long duration freezing rain event. It is likely that our area will not warm above freezing until after daybreak on Tuesday. This high impact freezing rain event will require several applications of salt to try and mitigate icing/slushing on pavements. Although winds will not be strong, the weight of the ice on tree branches and powerlines could lead to some power outages.

Dealing with ice storm events is a daunting task. Snow and ice treatment can only mitigate dangerous conditions created by bad weather. Despite the greatest efforts, roads will become slippery and dangerous. Those who choose to drive in the community do so at their own risk and should exercise extreme caution.  Tuesday morning’s commute will most likely be impacted and travel is strongly discouraged during this event.
